Every Monday the men meet for coffee and devotions.  Here is a recap of what we talked about this Wednesday.  In Timothy 6:11-12 Paul says

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

As a man of faith do you have the proper picture of yourself?

Paul calls out the gift in Timothy, speaking prophetic over his life and confirming what Jesus has already done through the cross.  Men, if you are in Christ, you are a man of God.  Know who you are, breath it in, own it and as you come into that understanding you will find that walking with the Lord will become that much more natural, real.

Paul reminds Timothy to flee unsound doctrine, pride, quarrelling, love of money and we know this from reading the chapter.  As a man of God, you are to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love steadfastness gentleness.  Pursue is a military word… to chase after with all your effort with the expectation to capture.  Are you pursuing the right things?

What is it that you chase after?

Is it righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness?  What can you do today to start focusing in on those goals?

Paul urges Timothy, and you “man of God” to “take hold” or “press on” to eternal life.  Your eternal life started the day you said yes to Jesus.  It is no mistake that you know Jesus.  He has called you out, chosen you!  Men, that the commitment you made to Jesus need to be of upmost priority.  You are a man of God, be confident in that, walk in it.  Take an inventory and see how you are pursuing the things of God and if you find that your aim is a bit low or off target strengthen yourself in the Lord, pray, set your sights on what God has for you as you fight the good fight of the faith.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me of your calling.  I confess to you and ask forgiveness of the sin of my neglect of pursuing righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness and gentleness.  Restore me in your loving kindness, grace and mercy.   Guide me and strengthen me to act out in faith that for which you called me as a man of God.  In Jesus name Amen.
